OFFERING OUR THANKS & PRAYERS:
A MINISTERIAL INTERN PROGRAM UPDATE
With Ian Holland now serving First Church in Somerville, we offer him our thanks for his great year of service at Payson Park. Since this call was not confirmed until late June, we agreed to celebrate his time among us when the fall season arrived. We will welcome Ian back to Fellowship Hour for such a celebration soon.
Since interviews for this internship typically begin in the spring months, and with most seminarians looking for such a position already committed to working in other congregations, it has been decided that we will not fill the Ministerial Intern slot for the coming program year. With two new staff people joining our team in the area of music this fall, the Pastor and Personnel Committee recognize the importance of focusing on their smooth integration as we find our church in a time of exciting renewal. Guest preachers and teachers will be arranged for as needed in order to offer pastoral support, and our teaching ministry will continue in September 2012.

DID YOU KNOW?
The church office receives calls to research our records and archives. In July, Sally Knowlton Bryant and her daughter Leslie called for Sally’s baptismal records. Sally is 82 and currently resides in NH at her summer home. Sally believed she was baptized in the Payson Park Congregational Church in the 1930's and wanted to know if there’d be a record of this. We found the records in the Archives and it did indeed show that on June 10, 1934, Sally and her sister Nancy were baptized. The parents are registered as James A. Knowlton and Esther Knowlton. Sally was born on June 9, 1930, and Nancy was born on January 4, 1928. Now you know…

NEW MEMBERS TO BE RECEIVE INTO THE LIFE OF PAYSON PARK CHURCH
Are you looking for a church to call “home” at this time in your life? Would you like to explore what it means to be a member of Payson Park Church and the United Church of Christ? New members will be received into the life of this congregation this fall, with Lael Atkinson leading an evening discussion about what membership means in this church and our denomination. Please let her know if you’d like to be a part of this exploration. It will be scheduled at the convenience of those interested in attending.

NEW FALL DIRECTORY
We are preparing a new listing and directory to be distributed this fall. Please review your information and contact the office at 617/484-1542 or email the office@paysonpark.org with new additions or corrections.

Mission and Service

CHURCH WORK DAY
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 18, 9:00 TO 11:00AM
All hands on deck! The Church Work Day is continuing. You have the chance to keep “pitching in” around our church home, helping with cleaning, maintenance, and repair projects. As specific projects will be coordinated, we ask that you let the Church Office know by Thursday, the 15 if you will be coming.
We thank you for pitching in!

THE MINISTRY OF ALL BELIEVERS:
OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE ABOUND
Are you looking for a way to serve the church or the world? The Nominating Committee is currently recruiting members and friends of the congregation to serve on the committees of the church. If you would like to explore ways to offer your talents and time, please speak with Carl Miller, Nominating Committee Chair.

CONTRIBUTING TO THE CHURCH:
WE THANK YOU!
Beginning a new program year together, the Treasurer and members of the Finance & Property Committees want you to know that your contributions to the church are needed and valued! If fulfilling your pledge through the summer months was deterred because you were away, please consider “catching up” soon. Our financial planning for the final months of the year depends upon our faithful contributions.

PEACE STARTS HERE:
BUILDING COMMUNITY TOGETHER
Help us grow as faithful and loving community! In addition to wearing a name tag on Sunday mornings, it’s also important that we reach out to others each week. Please make an effort to talk to someone you don’t know after worship, whether new to our congregation or a long-time member. Take a chance, make a new connection. It’s all a part of “walking in the ways of Jesus” right here at Payson Park.

PRAYING FOR THE WORLD,
SUPPORTING OUR TROOPS
Living with the realities of war, we extend our prayers for the world from our Sunday worship services to our daily lives. As we pray for peace for all people, we hold especially close those serving in the military.

DENOMINATIONAL EVENTS
Are you interested in attending educational or other events offered by our denomination? The offices of the Massachusetts Conference of the United Church of Christ, located in Framingham, provide a host of classes and workshops that are available to all. Events are regularly posted on our bulletin boards, or you may log on to the denomination’s website: macucc.org. The United Church of Christ: a believer that God is still speaking!

Altar Flowers

Would you like to honor a loved one? Each Sunday our altar flowers are given in honor or remembrance of those we hold dear. This program also offers us a chance to reach out to those in our congregation who are sick or shut in, as flowers are then delivered by our pastor or a deacon. If you care to make a donation, please speak with Cindy Lou Benson, our Administrative Coordinator at 617/484-1542 or email at office@paysonpark.org. For those who participate in this program annually, please confirm you wish to continue.
